Three reasons to only use genuine parts on Honda cars

Genuine Honda Parts Hepworth.

Car problems are part and parcel of car ownership. Whether you are own an older Honda Accord or a brand-new Honda Civic Type R, things can go wrong and when they do we can only hope they won’t be too bad.

If you are ever faced with repairing your Honda and visit an independent garage for repair, there is a chance you will be given two options: through door number one there will be a cheap and cheerful repair using third party parts - and through door number two there will be a slightly more expensive repair using Honda Genuine Parts.

Which parts are the best for my Honda in terms of value?

Here are three reasons why you should consider Honda genuine parts:

1. Quality

Buy cheap, buy twice.

You might be tempted to go for that cheap repair to save some cash but often it is a false economy. Yes, the repair will be cheaper right now, but the parts used simply won’t be made to Honda’s quality standards. That means they could fail again a lot sooner and leave you out of pocket again. Is it worth the risk?

Absolutely not, and there is a reason why Honda recommends Genuine Parts - because the quality is assured, and it does not invalidate your warranty.

It is also important to remember independent garages only tend to provide a limited warranty on repairs, typically up to 3 months. If your car needs repairing again after that for the same problem, you may find that arguing about the parts fitted where faulty will prove difficult, unless the garage made an installation mistake - and you can’t rely on that to save you.

2. Warranty

Peace of mind.

If your Honda is in warranty, you should use Honda Genuine Parts for all repairs to maintain the original manufacturer’s warranty on your vehicle. If you use third-party parts, the area of your car they are installed on will have its warranty voided (for example, third party suspension parts will void the suspension warranty, just as third-party engine parts will void the engine warranty - and possibly the drivetrain warranty too).

This is why fitting Honda Genuine Parts to your vehicle makes good sense as parts are covered under a 1-year warranty. That warranty is way beyond those offered by fitting cheaper third-party parts which may only be covered for 3 months.

3. Resale value

Maximise resale value.

When it comes time to sell your Honda, providing evidence that Honda Genuine Parts have been fitted to your vehicle may help maximise the value of the sale. That is because people like to know a car has been looked after and nothing says that more than “no expense spared”.

Even if it’s just a wheel bearing, a Honda stamp can make all the difference in making your car more attractive to a buyer and it might just put more cash in your back pocket.

You can maximise the resale value of your Honda even more by opting for a Honda main dealer service. Let your local Honda specialist take care of your Honda and stamp your book with that all-important Honda logo. It’s as easy as that.

If it's not a Genuine Honda part. it shouldn't be part of your Honda.
